Bogota Volunteer Fire Department

The Bogota Volunteer Fire Department is an all volunteer force of dedicated men and woman who are state certified firefighters.  Each member participates in regular training to keep their skills top-notch.  The Bogota Volunteer Fire Department has protected the community since its inception in 1901.

The Bogota Volunteer Fire Department originally organized on January 22, 1901, with just 23 members. The organization meeting took place at the Bogota Boat Club, which was located where The Atwater apartments are located today.

The first piece of equipment was a hand drawn hose carriage with 450 feet of hose and 2 nozzles. This equipment was kept in Munns Barn, and later in Kriegers Stable on River Road for an annual rental fee of $15.00 until 1906 when the Main Street Firehouse was built.  The Main Street Firehouse today is known as the Kenndy Emergency Services Building and serves as the headquarters for the Bogota Rescue Squad.

Today the department operates with 65 volunteers and state of the art firefighting equipment and stand ready to protect the residents of Bogota when called upon.

Fire Safety Tips

  • Check your smoke detector batteries often.  Any smoke or carbon monoxide detector more than 10 years old should be replaced.

  • Avoid overloading outlets in your home.

  • Never leave your kitchen while cooking.

  • During a power outage, it's safer to use flashlights rather than burning candles.
